ABADIR (Live)

He/him
Friday 12 May — Noordwaards

As he steadily makes a name on the international festival and club circuit, ABADIR (Rami Abadir) blends visceral and futuristic compositions of sounds and rhythms. The Cairo-born and now Berlin-based music producer and sound designer composes with powerful elements from musical traditions converging into new worlds of sound. His compelling releases contain influences of ambient, experimental electronics, club sounds and glitch aesthetics.

His latest album Mutate (2022) was internationally praised for its unique composition of styles, not from an adaptation of an aesthetic, but for its truly intrinsic way of composition and sound design. On Mutate, Rami is experimenting with mixing different music styles. He takes Maqsoum loops combined with an Egyptian urban folk rhythmic styleat high BPM and tries to blend them with the breaky beats of Jungle. As a result the Maqsoum rhythms complemented Jungle’s Amen breaks in a surprising way, evolving into a sound made out of different fragments from different music styles. Expect a performance where different types of Arabic rhythms are merged together with Jungle, Jersey Club, Reggaeton and Footwork, resulting in a piece far from its original parts.

ABADIR’S albums were released on SVBKVLT, Genot Centre, Hush Hush, Yerevan Tapes, Kaer’Uiks among many other labels. Besides his own project he’s part of duo 0N4B, together with Mostafa Onsy. Abadir holds a master’s degree in digital media from the University of Arts Bremen.
