Friday 12 May Audiovisual Art Assembly (AAA), Oedipus Brewing

Bianca Carague is a Filipino artist and designer based in Rotterdam. She creates objects and environments that allude to alternate worlds and possible futures. Since graduating from Design Academy Eindhoven (Social Design 2020), she has combined design research with worldbuilding to tell stories that reflect on social issues and emerging technologies. Next to her projects and shows, she leads workshops to engage young people in Futures Literacy through art.

Her recent solo exhibition ‘Gen C: Children of 2050’ imagined four different types of children that could exist in the year 2050 and took visitors through their bedrooms. The workshops she facilitated next to her exhibition engaged the public in both critical and creative thinking about the future.

Bianca is also known for her projectBump Galaxy, a Minecraft server for mental healthcare. Here, she modified the game's landscape and mechanics to facilitate various forms of therapy. The project grew to 3,000,000+ sqm of different virtual landscapes for care during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic by inviting people to play with her.

Talk Description:  Anything we make is a direct reflection of ourselves. Worldbuilding starts with world-seeing. During her talk, Bianca Carague will present her two projects 'Bump Galaxy' and 'Gen C: Children of 2050'. She will discuss how they have come to shape her collaborative worldbuilding and creative futuring practice, giving insight into how fiction meets reality in her creative process. She will also discuss how these insights have led to an upcoming exhibition in the Philippines.
